i missed another day. it was a grump-y one yesterday, so it's probably better that i kept my mouth shut. in the end, i ate a baked potato with salty butter and shredded cheese and put myself to bed, and life looked brighter this morning - even through the clouds and the rain.
today began the countdown to thanksgiving dinner. i've marketed, rolled out (using my great-grandmother's rolling pin) two pie crusts, set those crusts into their deep dishes, and left them in the fridge to wait for fillings tomorrow morning. i've got pumpkin muffins cooling, and ingredients upon ingredients lined up on the counters. i've got sweet potatoes to peel, brussels sprouts to trim, and a table in desperate need of a cloth (the one i was planning to use is too short! oops.). but that'll have to wait until tomorrow.
tonight, before i get buried in the beauty and the chaos of this beloved holiday, i want to say thank you. thank you for your support of my little shop, and for your kind words of encouragement about my work. thank you for your orders and your comments - they are so very much appreciated. truly.
in my last post, i promised a second gift, and here it is. if you read that last post, you know how very blessed i feel to have had the opportunities i've had during the last year to show and sell my work. in so many ways, those opportunities came about because of the encouragement of this community of bloggers and friends. and so, as a(nother) way of saying thank you, i'd like to give away two tiny prints from the golden light collection - one seaweed print, and one barnacle print. if you'd like the chance to receive one of these gifts, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post letting me know which one you'd choose - seaweed or barnacle (and feel free to say hi while you're at it - if you're so inclined, i'd love it if you'd say hi, too!). leave a comment on this post before friday evening, when i'll close the comments and choose two random winners. i wish i could send prints to each and every one of you. really, i do.
and now i've got to go find myself a super-long table cloth. hmmmm.

Hi! I love both prints, but especially the seaweed. And I adore your work, but you know that already.
I made pie filling today (sweet potato buttermilk) and 75 dinner rolls - now 72 because the kids had to taste test. Tomorrow morning is pie crust and a cranberry relish and the dicing of bread for dressing. Busy, busy, but oh so good.
xoxo

Hi there! So tough to choose. I guess I would go with seaweed because I love the golden light and mixture of colors.

I love them both, so you choose for me please, should I win.
Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Tiny seaweed because my husband walked by when I was looking at the prints and said, "That one!" Actually, I like them both very much--I'm a beach person. Hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

I love the seaweed. I love thinking about all that goes on in the ocean and how see only a part of it. I've been following since habit. I love your work! Happy Thanksgiving!

I love the barnacle print best. It reminds me of the beauty of tenacity and the textures and contrasts are lovely to my eyes. It makes me want to re-read Anne Morrow Lindburgh's Gift From the Sea, one of my favorite books. I hope the Thanksgiving preparations go smoothly in your lovely new kitchen. All the best!

You're so generous Em, with your gift giving. I just want to tell you I appreciate you and am glad you are in the world. Have a great Thanksgiving!

How generous! Thank you for all of your gorgeous pictures and lovely posts. I am so happy to have the notecards of the pebbles on the beach; I am thinking of framing one of each so that I can look at them all the time.
I love the seaweed. The warm colors remind me of my favorite salty smell. Having grown up a couple of miles from the ocean and now living in a land-locked state, I often ache for the sea.

I think I like the seaweed image.
You are most generous - I love your words and photos. They have been a huge gift to me these past few months.
I wish you a lovely Thanksgiving feast.

These are both so cool, I love all water related pictures(I did 23 years in the Navy and seen ALOT of ocean), but the seaweed is my favorite! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Michi

oh how generous your are emily! i've been mesmerized by barnacles since i was wee - especially how each one has a little delicate tentacle beneath all that armor, one that is teased out only by the presence of water.
enjoy the gathering and feasting around that extra long table cloth.

Oh, your celebrations always sound so beautiful. You have such a way of describing your preparations. I love it.
And I would be honored, just honored, to win the seaweed one. ;)

hi emily. i just truly want to say that you, and all of the wonderful friends i've met through you and elsewhere, are one of the things i'm most grateful for this thanksgiving.
i know all about grumpy days, and i'm sure we need one now and then, to get it all out of our system, so we can enjoy the rest of our days.
best wishes. xo. tara

What a lovely gesture - I would love the seaweed print, although they're both beautiful. Just discovered you trough Grace's blog - lovely place you have here!

Oh my, I grew up in Maine, ten minutes from the beach and loved the barnacle-covered rocks; beautiful shot! And how gracious of you to be giving them away! I would be so pleased to have the little barnacle framed in my home in Montana as a reminder of the ocean. I so enjoy your blog, and what a lovely table you had on Thanksgiving... inspiring!

I love them both...I am a Biology teacher and a lover of all nature and your photographs. Your work is great. I am partial to the barnacles....I love the wonder of life inside the little "rock".
