today has been a flurry of motion. i spend the better part of each thursday in the painting studio, so the hours outside of the studio tend to become a frenzy of dropping off and picking up and finding food and returning calls and emails, building with blocks, dancing to music, braiding hair, finishing homework, and the like. and tonight, the frenzy continues, as d. and i are off to the theater to see this play. but i'm stopping here first, because i couldn't miss the next-to-last day of green week.
today, because it's thursday-painting day, some recent green paintings. i realize that i haven't shared my paintings here for a good while. and today, i'm feeling a bit shy about sharing them. maybe because it's been so long. or maybe it's because i'm nervous (in an eager, curious way) to hear what you think.
incidentally, most of these were painted weeks ago, having nothing at all to do with green week (except that, clearly, green has been on my mind for months).
this first one is on canvas. 18x24. i haven't worked on canvas for a really long time. i just love painting on paper so much. but a few weeks ago i picked up this canvas for some reason i can't really put my finger on. it's part of what has become a series of window paintings - these are all part of that series, in fact.
these two are on paper. 10x10.
and this little pair. they were painted today. tiny little 6x6 pieces on paper.
there are more green paintings, too, if you can imagine. but i didn't want to bore you with so many. so that's it for today.
tomorrow is the last day of green week. i've been trying to visit everyone who is participating - to see all of your lovely and vastly different greens. it's going to take me well into the weekend to see everybody and everything, but i'm enjoying it thoroughly. and tomorrow i'll post one final list of links to those of you who joined late. do send me an email if you want to be included on the list and you haven't let me know already.
now, i'm off to the theater.
(these photos seem to be missing a section at the right edge of each image. i'm not sure why that's happening tonight. but you can click on the photos and see them in their entirety on flickr. really, you're not missing anything important, i just don't love how it looks. but i'm rushing now and i can't stop to figure out the problem. sorry about that.)

oh, emily. the paintings are glorious. i love the textures, the colors. i'm so intrigued by the notion of there being a series!!

Ok, so I'm a little late, but I've posted my contributions to green week. I hope what I lack in promptness is made up for by volume and greenness!! Thanks for hosting this challenge right before St. Paddy's Day!

These are beautiful. Something about them reminds me of being along the coast in a northern climate; pine trees, blue skies, bright sunshine.

I agree, your paintings are fantastic. Lovely use of color and texture.
Wow.

I like them alot. Especially the top three.
They remind me of Richard Diebenkorn. They make me think I'm looking at something familiar, but then I can't quite see it...
and so I keep looking harder...
How wonderful that you get a whole day to paint. Heavenly.

you have nothing to fear in sharing your work, my dear; these are wonderful. i especially love the first window, the stillness and movement. and even though i haven't been able to participate, i have thoroughly enjoyed green week. thank you!

Oh Emily, I think these are gorgeous! I really love your style.

I just love them, Emily, especially the first piece. For me, it evokes the view from the deck at the family beach place in the San Juan Islands. I could look at that one all day.

I really, really love these. I really enjoy your quality and differences in marks. They remind me of how I like to paint, with the knife. And they are inspiring me to want to do this again. Paint.

Anytime you load a pic from flickr onto typepad, it will cut off the right side of the photo, because the flickr photos are set to 500px wide and the blog column has a limit as to how wide it is. (Mine, with a 3 column layout, is limited to 500px, I believe.) So, if the photo and the column are actually the same width, a little will be cut off because there's an automatic border around the posting column of a few px. It always only cuts off the right side of the photo, I'm not sure why that is. Anyway, it can be kind of irritating, but I still find it to be worth it considering the hassle of uploading them twice and then cross-linking is just too much for me.
And I LOVE your paintings. Love, love, love. My favorite is the third one down (the second of the 10x10's). I also really love the tiny ones. Good job you amazing Emily!

emily - they are stunning! i love seeing your work. keep it coming!

Your paintings are lovely. Very interesting and the colors are perfect. I especially like the "lines" that you have put on them, I'm not sure if you scraped the paint away with a tool or what the correct "artistic" term would be but I really just love that effect, I think they are wonderful!
