green week, 5

before i even say one word about green, i want to sincerely thank you all for your kind and encouraging words about my paintings. you truly, and swiftly, eased my shy-ness about sharing. i'm so glad that you enjoyed them. i really am. more about that next week.

now, the last day. the last day. (does anyone know that play? museum, by tina howe? an obscure theatrical reference. obscure, but apropos.)

really, i didn't think i could love any other week after shari's white week; i loved white week so much. but this week of green has been more fun than i could have imagined, and i've fallen in love with it, too.

green week, 5

you see, i wanted to do something - something concrete - to honor the transition from february - that long last month of deepest winter - into this new month of march - the month that brings us into the springtime, the month that brings the early awakening of the earth here in this place where i live. i wanted to challenge myself to find those clues to the earth's awakening out of doors, and to find the bits inside that i could cherish in these last cold weeks. a ritual, of sorts. well, it was all of that, and so much more.

i am blown away by how you all embraced green week. by how the "fever" (as alicia called it), or the "craziness" (as amy called it), spread through these parts. by how much fun it was to come to my computer each day and find your photos and your comments and your emails. i smiled all week long. and i am sure that this communal celebration of one special color has brought us closer to spring - by five days, at least!

so thank you. thank you for playing. for playing with me. for sharing in this ritual. for honoring this particular moment in time. for paying attention to the world around you and finding those greens in the most usual and unusual places. thank you, those of you in the warmest climates, for sharing your green trees and gardens and giving us hope for what's to come. thank you, those of you in the coldest climates, for looking hard, and for finding green, even when you thought there was none to be found.

i am in awe of our collective spirit. i really am.

It's been so much fun...Thanks for letting us play along and inspiring us to look for new beginnings!

Also, I loved your paintings... that last window painting you posted was my particular favorite. Happy weekend. XO

It's been inspiring, truly.

Hi Emily, Thanks for linking to my blog! I didn't expect that at all and I have been a little behind in the green week but I'm GOING to get all 5 pictures up :) This has been a really wonderful week. I'm just getting into the surprisingly tight knit blogging community and this is the first group thing I've participated it. I want to thank you for thinking of such a wonderful and inspiring idea. I can't wait for winter to be over!

green week was great medicine for me, emily. you know it's my favorite hue, but i started seeing in all kinds of place i took for granted before. thank you.

Well, I started a little late, too, and I am definitely going to finish out all five days, darnit!! lol I have too much green everywhere to stop at a measly 4!!

it's been great observing and paying attention to all the greenery around me that I'd otherwise have not noticed. thanks for green week & thanks for including me, emily.

Thank you for hosting green week, this really made me open up my eyes to green...I knew it was always there....but saw much more past the color...Thanks again !kt

Thanks so much for hosting green week Emily. I really needed that lively shade to get me through the dusk of winter. We need to do community projects more often!

Hi Emily,
Nope I'm fine! Thanks for asking! I felt pressure from myself only because I've been terrible about blogging recently. This is just helping me reach my goals :) Hope you had a great weekend!
