i don't think i'll go on numbering my posts forever (though i love how shari and amisha do that). but today, i'm lacking words.
so i'm sharing a few recent paintings.
i've been working on a series of window paintings.
i'll tell you about that another day when there are no contractors in my house putting up new wallboard to cover the walls that are so damaged from trying to remove improperly hung wallpaper that my simple living room painting job has turned into a large and dusty project.
but it's all good. it's happening. and the contractor is friendly and helpful and here. and by next week, i'll have a beautifully painted living room.
later, neighbors. (oh, and i'm pretty sure i'm going to have to go on about the neighborhood some more another day. i've been thinking about a map.)

i'm enjoying your work very much. hope you continue to show more. they really are so beautiful. best of luck with the livingroom project.

i love your window series. love the colours. and the lines. so lovely. if i have to choose a favorite ... i would say 'number 1'. yep. but they are all amazing.

A map is a great idea, I love maps!

I can't decide between 1 and 3 for my favorite.
Hope we get to see peeks of the new living room! (we're in the midst of a dusty master closet project now.)

I like 1 & 4, and 2 best.
Any good wallpapers coming off your walls?
Oooh, a map! I'd love to see how you do that!

I love the work, especially those first two. I really dig the contrast between the knife and the brush in those ones. And the colors are ones that I am drawn to, I think.
I'm interested in how a map might be laid out. When I moved before Christmas, my neighbor, across the street from my physical house, made advent calendars that were maps of our neighborhood, and it was such a lovely housewarming gift, to see some of the houses that she included, how the neighborhood was knit together, some of the places that are important to the area.

Ok, anything with blue in it is totally cool, I love that first painting.

I'm glad you invited your neighbors over to see your art work! I love it! I love abstract art exactly like that, now if only I could convince my fiancee that abstract is the way to go... I'd have some nice art in my house!

a map! brilliant!
the paintings are so nice, emily. i especially like the first one and the last one...they just draw me in.

oh emily. they're all so good, especially the last two. how i love red.
as for maps, i love your idea. thinking of it makes me remember a map-making exercise from a geography class i took ages ago. the map was based on experiences and perceptions of different people within a community. for the children, the park and the school were the biggest and most prominent features; for the elderly it was the senior center and the clinic; for the college hipsters it was the cafes and bars as well as the university. and then for individuals, the location of friends and family were stand outs. it was an interesting and informative way to look at the same neighborhood through the eyes of its diverse inhabitants.
may the living room renovation be quick! can't wait to see what color you choose for the walls.

i love this window series. it was fun seeing these right after the last post's window photo. it got me thinking about what you are seeing and how you are translating it into your painting.

I love all your paintings, but I especially love the last one. Can't wait to see your newly painted living room! :D

i love your paintings. i especially love the fact that i would never look at it and think "window" but as soon as you say that it's a series of window paintings, i immediately see windows. they're abstract in a really nice way. (i'm not sure if that came out right- but in any case, i love them!)

emily,
These are absolutely lovely. Are you selling these or keeping them for your own enjoyment?
Stunning, simply stunning!

your paintings are wonderful, removing wallpaper - not so wonderful! We had it in every room of our house and on the ceiling in several rooms. The walls in one room were very badly damaged so we did a textured plaster that turned out quite nice. It was easier to apply texture than to try to make the walls smooth again.

I have to tell you...
I have been away for a couple of weeks - you know how life gets, but gosh! I am so happy to return and see what you've been up to.
You inspire me! You are so creative and such a thoughtful woman and mom... I am trying to live a more mindful life, an authentic life, a purpose-filled life - making choices not letting the river run where it may.
I look to you and your artistic side and I know that it is possible to be both creative and mindful!
Thank you for giving my spirit the renewal that it needed.
Happy spring, friend.
