there's a lot going on around here this week. we're in the midst our first ever home renovation project. i wish i could say that we're doing the work ourselves, but we're not at all big tool project people. so we've hired a lovely (i think) contractor. yesterday, he demolished this.
this is our master bathroom before. (yes, before the contractor even arrived!) we inherited this bathroom when we moved into the house four years ago and it's horrifying to think that we let it go for as long as we did. these photos don't even give you a taste of the green countertops or the brass fixtures, the white shower, or the floor-to-ceiling mirrors. it's not only a hodge-podge, it has no baseboard molding, no vent fan, a light fixture whose bulbs are melted into the fixture itself. at long last, the time was right.
so there's been a lot of banging. and dust. and trash.
and though i hope believe it's going to be lovely when it's finished, life is somewhat topsy-turvy. dave and i are living in the guest room while the work is being done. our clothes are piled on the floor or packed in boxes in a corner of the living room. there are workmen in the house all day. their music playing loud in my bedroom.
and in the midst of this chaos, i've been working extra hard to keep a sense of order in the family and some quiet in my brain. which means very little time for my own projects. almost no photos taken (a rarity for me). really, no creative pursuits of any sort. i'm just walking slowly through the moments until there's calm in the house again (two weeks, they say). and then, well then i plan to take a long hot shower and exhale, and see what's calling my name.
tomorrow, seven random things about me.

Oh, but you've GOT to take photos! I'm absolutely hooked on them. I'm happy to look at piles of rubble, or anything you've got lying around, or happen to spy about. Please Do take photos. I'm sure the next two weeks will be completely worth the temporary displacement :-)

at least when the workmen are gone, you'll have a nice, finished product. we tend to think we are big tool people, start a project with great gusto and then trail off...the project remains undone for all eternity.
